The Effectiveness of Household Budgeting Worksheet

When we hear about creating a household budget, we might not take it seriously. Many of us might just run away from the thought of creating such budget worksheet. This is one important lesson in life which we have not learnt in school and therefore we don’t give it much importance. However, learning to create a household budgeting worksheet would have proved to be more useful than any other lessons taught in the school.

If you have basic knowledge of computers then creating a budget worksheet would not prove to be difficult. However, if you are planning to make a budget then you should have strong determination to create the budget properly and by default every month and to manage the expenses within your budget.

How to prepare the household budgeting worksheet?

Follow the following steps in order to create an effective budget worksheet. First you need to be aware about all your monthly expenses. Track the expenses in a given month so that you know where exactly your household income is spent. You can do this by making a record of everyday expenses in a weekly expense report. Try to keep all the purchase receipts with you and file it on a monthly basis. While making the expenditure entry write down the nature of purchase, amount spent, whether by cash or card etc.

At the end of every month transfer your purchase records in monthly expense worksheet. This will give you a clear idea about your monthly expenses and how much are you spending on different category like groceries, rent or mortgage, food. Medical bills, education, electricity, phone bills etc. Also, the money spent on entertainment should be included too. By doing this you would know how much amount you are saving each month. If you have no saving or very little saving you can work out by cutting the expenditure on some non mandatory items. After subtracting all the expenses from the monthly income you have your statement ready.

This information will help you in creating the budget for the next month. By viewing the income and expenditure sheet of the previous month you would know where you can cut down your expenses or if needed where to increase it. You will have all type of expenses in front of you such as occasional expenses, variable expenses, fixed expenses, credit card payments etc. In short, by creating a household budgeting worksheet you will have full control over your expenses and will not fall in any kind of debt trap.

Paycheck Calculators and Budget Planning For a Hard Working Person

Article by Joshua Eager

So you want to know how much are you really getting paid? How far your net paycheck is going to get you? And what exactly a 48K/year job will let you buy every week? Now you can find out answers to all of these questions, thanks to the free online paycheck calculators, that can be found at paycheckcalculators.org.

The salary that you get really means a lot of different things in different places. Same salary in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles is different from the same salary in Seattle, Tampa or Dallas.

As you know, there are federal taxes that each employee has to pay. These federal taxes are deducted from your paycheck every time you get paid. These taxes include Social Security, Medicare and Federal Income tax. The federal portion of taxes is the same for everybody, regardless of the state of your residence.

The state taxes, on the other hand, that are also deducted from your paycheck, are different in each and every US state. Not only you have to know the state withholding tax rates in the state of your employment and residence, but you need to be able to compute the state taxes properly based on your payroll frequency, marital status and number of dependents that you may have. State taxes may include State Withholding, State Disability Insurance, State Unemployment Insurance and others.

Here’s again where a free paycheck calculator from http://www.paycheckcalculators.org comes in handy. Select the state of your residence, and you will be taken to a page dedicated to that state’s payroll. Click on Paycheck Calculator, enter the gross pay information, marital status, number of federal and state deductions (read dependents) and voila – you are ready to go! Click on Calculate Paycheck button and in a split of a second you will have the exact amount of net paycheck in front of you.

Now go ahead – plan your trip, or plan you family budget according to your actual net paycheck amount. Now you know what that 48k job may buy you.

But that’s not all! If you are an advanced reader, and if you are lucky enough to have an iPhone or an Android phone, you will benefit tremendously by installing a free Paycheck calculator app called Paycheck Free from Payrollguru (http://www.payrollguru.mobi). This paycheck calculator app gives you the net paycheck calculation, without having to go any paycheck calculator websites. If you have pre-tax and after-tax deductions as part of your pay, make sure you include them as well into your paycheck calculation, which you can do with a Payroll Guru app. With Payroll Guru you can create unlimited payroll profiles and add pre-tax and after-tax deductions to your paycheck.

Payroll Guru app the most powerful out of the 3 apps – Paycheck Free, Paycheck Calc and Payroll Guru, that are available for iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

Budget Planning – The First Step To Personal Investment

To build our wealth through personal investment we have to find the money to invest. The only way we can do this is through proper budget planning. This will help us find discretionary money – money we will not need to cover our day-to-day living expenses. Many investment plans fall down because the money has to be used for unforseen emergencies or unplanned-for contingencies. If we want to grow our wealth, personal investment money has to be set aside specifically for that purpose.

Hate The Idea Of Budgeting?

So many people hate the idea of budgeting. The idea of living on a budget is not appealing. So many negative pictures come to mind: having to restrict ourselves; having to go without some pleasures; having to discipline ourselves. For some people it means facing reality, because they know they are living beyond their means and they do not like the idea of having to change.

Yet, if they don’t, they will get deeper and deeper into debt and will never be free. Unfortunately, this is the story of a great many people.

Budget Planning Makes Us Free

Budget planning puts us in control. Because we control our money, we control our lifestyle. More than that, we control our future. There are so many things in our lives that virtually control us, often through no fault of our own, this is one area we can control and it is one of the most important. Even if money is not the most important thing in life, it is one of life’s essentials. Financial worries plague many people. Taking control of our money goes a long way towards reducing those worries.

Get What We Want

Budget planning is the first step to peace of mind and then to financial freedom. I mean being in a position where the smallest financial glitch does not become an emergency – things like your pay being delayed; the car breaking down; an unexpected dental or medical bill. For many people events like these mean they will simply go into more debt with their credit card or they make a panic call to friends or family or, if they have no one to call, just getting through the best way they can. In fact, this feeling of insecurity can hang over their heads causing a great deal of anxiety. Budget planning is a positive step towards freeing up money to build personal investment, which leads to personal financial freedom.

How to Start a Budget

To start a budget, you need several resources, first, you need dedication. Second, you need a way to track your income and expenses. Simply put, a budget is the way to track where your money is going.

One way to begin a budget is to track your expenses and income by using a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel, or a free program such as Open Office. The easiest and most efficient way to track your expenses is a commercial budgeting program. (More information at the bottom).

If you choose to to use your own spreadsheet, plan to spend at least several hours setting it up, and about an hour a week maintaining it. Here are the steps in starting your budget:

1. Record all your income as you receive it. Be sure to record any money that comes your way.

2. Next separate all your expenses into categories, such as Mortgage, Utilities, Food, Clothing, Taxes, Auto expenses, etc.

Everything you can think of.

3. Record everything you spend. Whether if it’s a new 1,000 TV or a cup of coffee. Keep all your receipts. Categorize all expense under their respective categories.

4. Add up your total expenses and subtract that amount from your total income.

5. If your numbers are in the negative, you need to change your spending habits. It is imperative that your income never exceeds your expenses. Watch out on how you spend your money. Reduce as many expenses as possible to keep your income higher than your cost of living.

Be diligent in updating your budget every week. Be sure to make time to do so. You will soon be on your way to true financial freedom!

To avoid the trouble of setting up your own budget, and making possible mistakes, use a commercial budgeting program. Household Budget

February 18, 2012 by

When working on our  Household Budget plan, it is hard to ignore that times are tough financially all over the world. We are in the middle of a global recession that many believe is as bad as the Great Depression of the 1930′s. I would challenge this presumption with facts but right now but because many people are losing their jobs, their incomes are getting cut, and their expenses are going up, it is hard to change the mindset that has pervaded the culture through media to believe such a thing.

It is said that a recession is when my neighbor loses his job and a depression is when I lose mine. When in financial straits, it is hard to see the forest for the trees and easy to panic if more expenses have been created than the income can handle.

It is easy to see how these people might find themselves unable to cover all of the monthly expenses they have in their  Household Budget plan. When that time comes for you, take a look at your income and expenses and find a way to make ends meet. It can be done, and it can be done by anyone.

Here Is What To Do
The first thing is to take a good look at your household budget plan and figure out what expenses can be cut. Notice I did not say could be cut. There is always some things can be Find them. Often, you may be spending money on a lot of unnecessary things.
For example, you may be spending a lot of money on fast food or Starbuck’s coffee drinks, or maybe you have a Netflix membership for a month to get 3 movies at a time. You could easily cut out the Starbuck’s and make coffee at home, reduce your fast food consumption, and go down to the a month Netflix membership and take out just one movie at a time.

You may also find you can do without premium cable channels, and can work out ways to reduce your cell phone and utility expenses by using these things less. For example, you could hang up your clothes to dry, rather than using a clothes dryer. Turn off the air conditioner and use ceiling fans for some of the time. Restrict cell phone usage to emergencies only and purchase a per month pay-as-you-go plan.
Take Action

If you still cannot make ends meet after making these cuts in your household budget plan, take on a part-time job or sell some things on eBay and Crags list. Start your own home based business to cover the gaps. The point is that there are plenty of things to do to succeed financially when there is not enough money to cover budget expenses with your regular income. Get out there and take action.

Creating an Effective Budget Planner Worksheet

February 14, 2012 by

Always remember simplicity is the height of sophistication. In other words, sometimes making things simple makes them more effective. Same is the case with budget planner worksheets. You can create your budget planner worksheet in a ledger, in a notebook or in an electronic spreadsheet. Just make sure that your budget planner worksheet is simple. If it’s simple it is most likely to be effective and it will let you handle your household budget by providing you a full control over it.

Creation of a budget planner worksheet may seem extremely complicated but you can make is quite simple for yourself. The simpler you make it; the easier will it be for you to follow it. To make the budget planner worksheet more effective, you should start by opening 3 bank accounts. First bank account should be your everyday bank account, the second one should be your savings account and the third one should be your expense account.

The everyday account should be easily accessible and your income should be placed in this account. Then identify the cycle of your budget, do you earn on daily, weekly monthly or annual basis? After identifying write down the combined household income for each budget cycle, For the expense account you should be listing down the things that you have to pay for such as the power, groceries, fuel etc. Calculate the periodic total for every bill that you have to pay. If your income comes on weekly basis divide the annual bill by 52 and place the amount in the expense account. You should divide the annual bill amount by 26 if your pay cycle is fortnightly & by 12 if it is monthly. This way you can figure out the total income you earn and you can take the amount you need for your everyday purchases.  The amount that you are left with after paying all the bills is called the play money. You can place this amount in your savings account for future purchases or emergency purpose or you can give yourself a treat and buy yourself something that you’ve wanted to buy.

House Moving on a Budget

February 10, 2012 by

“Moving house can be an adventure – the excitement of setting up a new home has a universal appeal – it’s a feeling of renewal, a chance to make a clean slate, a milestone in a person or family’s life. However, moving house can also be an expensive and stressful time if you don’t plan carefully and cut costs wherever you can.

For some, it’s worth it to pay a moving company to do the entire move – it’s even possible to have them pack for you, but moving services aren’t cheap, and though they offer convenience and security (if they are reputable and fully insured, of course), many people simply can’t afford the expense and will prefer to do at least part of the move themselves. You can move your home for next to nothing if you have a strong back and a willing friend who owns a lorry, but if not, there are still ways to accomplish the move without spending a lot of money.

Renting a lorry and doing the moving yourself can be an option, though it can be tricky moving large furniture and appliances without damage or injury.

It’s a good idea to have at least one person on the job who has some experience with moving, who can direct the loading and unloading, and who can operate the lorry safely. Smashed fingers, damage to doorways and scratched furniture are just a few of the things that can occur when the inexperienced attempt a move without some professional help.

Doing all the packing yourself and then hiring a professional mover to transport only the heavy furniture and appliances is a good way to save money while still having a bit of help where it counts. A mover is cheaper than a back specialist, if you get my drift…

Don’t buy boxes and packing materials – start saving boxes from the supermarket well in advance of the move and save newspapers to wrap dishes and other fragile items in. Be sure to hire a reputable end of tenancy cleaning firm to clean the old flat in accordance with the terms of your rental agreement, so that you will receive your full deposit back. For moving services, lorry rental and end of tenancy cleaning London has choices in every neighborhood. Plan your move carefully and wisely and you won’t end up in the poorhouse or in a back brace!”

Alfred Halfnight is a London-based freelance journalist with a mission to make you a better, cleaner, happier human being. Bathroom Tile Remodeling Budget Plan

January 21, 2012 by

Bathroom tile remodel planning should encompass many aspects of your budget that you may not have considered. After having participated in hundreds of remodel projects over the years there are a number of issues that remain consistent that homeowners may not be aware of from what I’ve seen.

Bathrooms by their very nature are a wet, damp environment subjected to moisture, chemicals, heating and cooling several times daily. This continual assault eventually breaks down paint, caulk, grout, surfaces, and invites all manor trouble that can be difficult and expensive to fix.

Construction practices have changed for the better in some ways and remain dismal in others. Materials have improved, but their use in new construction has been minimal due to cost. This creates even more expense down the road for homeowners. I really hate to see government impose construction practices and materials on people and contractors, so I am advocating homeowners and contractors educate themselves on the use and implementation of better materials and use.

So, what’s better? We almost exclusively used Hardie Backer or similar material for walls and floors over wood.

Using larger tiles like a Natural Stone than the builder 4×4 ceramic tile reduces the grout lines and thus less possibility for wear and eventual leakage. Thicker tile increases the depth of the grout again making it more water resistant. Installing a vapor barrier behind this backer can provide an added layer of protection from water getting into the framing. If expense is no problem and you really want to go “postal” to stop water from leaking, do the above and then coat the entire backing with a material like Merkrete. Your contractor will know what it is although it is generally used in commercial applications.

What you can expect when budgeting for a bathroom tile remodel, is to spend more than you budgeted. In about 80% of the projects started, we’ve discovered unknown or unexpected damage. This damage comes in the form of mold, water damage, insects, eroded materials and sub-structures, improper plumbing installation, plumbing leakage due to wear, and improper or excessive use of cleaning materials. We’ve found virtually clogged plumbing with wax. This wax is the paraffin wax in shampoo, hair conditioners, and soaps used as a preservative and suspension agent. When you shower the wax hits the cold walls of the plumbing then sticks and builds up. Add some hair, a little soap scum and boy do we enjoy cleaning that out! We prefer to leave the plumbing better that when we found it.

In light of this my advice to those considering a bathroom remodel add at least 15% or more to the cost estimate or have it on hand should an element not seen arise. If your home is on a slab you have a bit less to worry about than a home on a wood pier and beam floor structure. We really can’t tell from an estimate if there is structural damage or insects be it ants or termites. We find more ants than termites around here but they can do their own damage somewhat similar to termites though not as bad. We do not know what we really have until we open up the walls and floors where necessary.

A simple tub shower combo tile remodel going back with Hardie Backer and regular ceramic builders type tile, expect to pay 00 to 00 for the work including haul off. The better tile the more expensive. Install glass doors, natural stone tile, a niche, install new plumbing fixtures, and you can easily hit 00. Replace or install floor tile, new counter tops, plumbing and light fixtures and the estimate can blow through ,000. Better or more exotic materials can push these costs even higher.

And, these costs do not reflect the expense to fix original damage not found in the original estimate. You can expect to pay at least per stud replaced that was eaten up by water leakage, erosion, or bug infestation. Expect to pay to 0 bucks for the contractor to simply make a run to the Home center for materials. Remember, corners and tee’s in basic framing require 3 studs each and every tub shower combo has at least two! Expect to pay a flat 0 bucks and more to drag out the jack hammer to bust out plumbing improperly installed or that needs to be moved. Time is money and when the contractor is fixing or rebuilding where he should be just building, it eats into his schedule possibly making him back up other projects that may “walk” if the contractor is tied up on your now expanded repair.

This is why one might think remodeling is so expensive, but knowing the processes and challenges contractors run into I hope this will give one a little better understanding into their cost and pricing basis. This applies to “do it your self types” as well.
